How to Choose the Right Username
A username is a small but meaningful part of your online identity. Whether you're picking a handle for a new game, an Instagram account, or a GitHub profile, the right name will be one you're still happy with years from now.
The four rules of a good username
1. Short and memorable. Under 12 characters is the sweet spot. Teammates need to remember your name after one game. Followers need to find you by memory.
2. Easy to say aloud. If someone would stumble saying your name in a Discord voice chat, it's too complex. Avoid double underscores, mixed-case tricks, and stacked numbers.
3. Consistent across platforms. Having the same username on Twitch, Instagram, Twitter, and TikTok builds a recognizable brand. Check all your target platforms before committing.
4. Future-proof. Avoid specific ages ("Emily2008"), current trends that date quickly, or inside jokes only your friend group understands. Pick something you'd want a professional contact or future employer to see.

✨ Aesthetic
Mood-driven handles for TikTok, Instagram, Pinterest. Soft florals, dark academia, vintage Y2K — let the vibe speak.

Pure creative combinations with no category filter. Great for pseudonymous accounts where you want something unique and unexpected.
Platform-specific tips
Twitter/X: Max 15 characters, underscores allowed, no spaces. Short names get more engagement in replies.
Instagram: Max 30 characters, underscores and dots allowed. Dots are popular for aesthetic accounts (e.g., luna.soft).
TikTok: Max 24 characters, underscores and dots allowed. Trendy, fast, visual — shorter is better.
Gaming (Steam/Epic/PSN): Usually 3–16 characters. Check individual platform rules.
GitHub/LinkedIn: Lowercase, hyphens preferred. Avoid numbers. Your real name or a clean brand variant is ideal.
