How to Use the Hashtag Generator

Type any keyword or niche in the input box — like "travel", "fitness coach", or "food photography" — and click Generate. The tool looks up your keyword against a curated database of 20+ niches and returns ~30 hashtags organized into four popularity tiers.

Understanding the 4 Tiers

Hashtag tiers are editorial estimates based on typical Instagram usage patterns for well-known tags. They help you build a balanced strategy:

  • Mega (500M+ estimated posts): Hashtags like #travel or #fitness are used by hundreds of millions of posts. Your post shows up briefly in the recent feed but quickly gets buried. Use 1–2 for broad exposure.
  • Large (50M–500M): More specific than mega — like #travelphotography instead of #travel. Better odds of being discovered, still decent reach.
  • Medium (5M–50M): The sweet spot for most accounts. Competitive enough to mean something, niche enough that your post can surface in top posts for the tag.
  • Micro (<5M): Laser-targeted tags with a small but engaged audience. If you have under 10k followers, these give you the best chance of reaching the top posts section.

Note: Tier labels are editorial estimates, not live post counts from Instagram or TikTok. Actual post volumes change continuously.

Instagram vs TikTok — Platform Differences

  • Instagram (2024–2025 guidance): Use 3–10 relevant, targeted hashtags. Instagram itself has walked back the "30 hashtags" advice from earlier years. Quality over quantity — highly relevant tags outperform a spray of generic ones.
  • TikTok: Hashtags are less dominant than on Instagram because TikTok's algorithm prioritizes content over tags. Use 3–5 hashtags — 1 broad discovery tag and 2–4 niche ones. Tag stuffing can actually reduce reach on TikTok.
